Medicinal Treatment
Most doctors advise on using this method as the first step in restoring hair.
At Aesthetica Roots clinic, we believe that medications are as important as treatment of hair loss and to prevent further damage to the existing hair.
- This step of treatment is useful in the early stages of the balding process. There are mainly two medications — Oral medication which contains finasteride (1mg) and the topical medication containing Minoxidil / Procapil — that are popular for treatment of common hair loss (androgenetic alopecia).
- Both of these medications are known to reverse or slow down miniaturization (a hormone-driven process in which hair follicles shrink over time until they eventually disappear) and eventually lead to death of hair follicles.
Finasteride
Finasteride inhibits the synthesis of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone directly responsible for miniaturization of hair follicles. By inhibiting DHT, Finasteride increases the length and thickness of miniaturized hair. Finasteride requires a prescription and a medical expert can best judge if you need this line of treatment or not.
Minoxidil
Minoxidil is known to increase the duration of the growth (anagen) phase of the hair follicle cycle and can also induce a new anagen phase. This improves the quality of the hair by increasing the diameter and length of the miniaturizing hairs. Generic minoxidil is available in standard doses of 5% solution, 5% foam (men and women), and 2% solution for women.
